Electric-Powered Bikes
A free course is available for people who would like have a go on electric-powered bikes (e-bikes) alongside a guide. Afterwards they will be able to claim back £300 from the cost of an e-bike.
Leicestershire residents can book online for the next sessions, which are being held on Wednesday, 20th November, at County Hall in Glenfield, from 9.00 a.m. until 12 noon and again from 1.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m. To book, please go to Leicestershire County Council e-bike courses.
The scheme is run by Choose How You Move, who encourage alternative travel options such as cycling, walking, and wheeling. Attendees at the e-bike course can expect guidance on different makes and models of e-bikes, including accessible options for disabled cyclists as well as e-bike maintenance and safety. The course will also be offered in different areas of the County, including Charnwood, Hinckley, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray and West Leicestershire, on dates to be announced.
Anyone who would like to be added to the waiting list for the future dates, or has any questions, is asked to contact the team by emailing choosehowyoumove@leics.gov.uk
Electric vehicle charging network
More electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints are to be installed in Leicestershire. The County Council is part of a consortium, with four other authorities, which has secured almost £1 million of Government funding to install public chargepoints across the Midlands. The County Council will be collaborating with the chargepoint operator Wenea.
The main aim of the project is to make EV charging accessible to a wider range of residents, especially those without access to off-street parking. A roll-out of chargepoints is planned from 2025 onwards, and details about locations will be given closer to the time.
For information about the latest developments residents are asked to visit the County Council's website at www.leicestershire.gov.uk/electric-vehicles-ev
